Keeping Up with the Dinosaurs
Two years ago I had an Advent calendar that was all about a punch-out penguin and her adventures through the Antarctic, looking for golden wings. I had a neat little storyline to go with the penguin and her lungfish friend as they journeyed through a Cthonian landscape, and it was fun.
This year, unfortunately, I have no such storyline to go with my dinosaur activity kit, though I’m wide open to suggestions, if either of my regular readers have one in mind. So for now I’m just going to post the results of each day’s activity. And if I were really productive, I would write up a single blog post for each day’s activity instead of doing what I am doing now, which is writing one big ol’ honkin’ entry with every day’s activity in it.
I already posted Day One: the red rock with the bones on it. So this one is from Day Two:
It’s a race car, it’s a triceratops! It came as a white dino, so I used the paints that came with Day One to paint it. I wasn’t sure how to get really creative, so I just painted it green with some black and yellow highlights.
Day Three was another rock to paint. I painted this one:
I meant to paint it plain yellow, but somehow it ended up with this really interesting yellow and black swirl effect. I’m not sure whether the paintbrush was dirty or the rock was dirty or the stars aligned wrong or something, but it came out this way. I like it, so I’m not going to add any embellishments.
Day Four:
Four stickers! Now, stickers aren’t really my thing, so I’m not sure what to do with them. My laptop cover is bereft of cool stickers, and I kind of like it that way (even our car has no bumper stickers on it, though we briefly considered adding a Harris For President sticker). I’ll figure out something, though. Plus, they glow in the dark!
Day Five:
It’s a little plastic stegosaurus complete with Thagomizer on its tail! I didn’t have to paint this one or anything. It just… is. It’s a dino.
Day Six:
It’s another river rock! This one I painted green, since it’s my favorite color. I decided not to add any stickers again, because I think it’s cool to have a green rock.
Finally, Day Seven — TODAY!
Well, as anyone with two neurons to rub together knows, a pterodactyl is not, technically, a dinosaur. I don’t know what category it belongs to, though, and I’m too lazy to Google it, so here it is. It’s a stained glass plastic thingy, and it came with translucent paint which also glows in the dark. I am not entirely satisfied with the paint job, though… it got blobby. Not sure what I did wrong. But it did come with a spiffy little suction cup, so I hung it up on the window above my desk, where I can admire it while I work during the day, and watch it glow at night.
In other news, I still have “Popular” from the Wicked soundtrack stuck in my head. If I were the cruel sort, I would have embedded that song into this post for you to listen to at your leisure, but I did not, for I am not cruel.
I will continue this dinosaur journey tomorrow. Have a happy December 7, y’all!
That advent calendar really goes all over the place, doesn’t it? I like it!
