2025 Commitment, The Story Engine, Writing

Prompt No. 32

Last Week’s Story:

Last week’s story, “Our Love is a Work in Progress” (a title I’m actually kind of proud of), is not yet complete, but I don’t see it being much longer than it already is. I did not hit the romance beats at all, but it’s not a failure; it’s a learning experience. An “area of opportunity”, as such things were referred to in the Summary of Accomplishments forms I had to fill out at a previous job.

Actually, this week has been kind of rough. I’d been fighting a migraine since Tuesday, and on Thursday, the migraine won. So my head has been hurting since. Fun fact: I learned that the term “migraine” has a wide arrange of diagnostic criteria, so I just figure it’s a catch-all phrase for “things that get weird in the head”. The term “schizophrenia” has a similar meaning, I think.

This Week’s Prompt:

I rolled a 5 on the d8, signifying Science Fiction, and a 6 on the d6, which is basically a wild card. So I’m just going to do a straight science fiction story, and see what happens.

A bartender wants to win a secretive race involving an explosive, but it will cost them their last connection to humanity.

This prompt is an interesting one. For one thing, I’m sort of surprised that a mundane occupation like “bartender” shows up in the science fiction deck, but I guess there will be bartenders in the future as well. This should be interesting. I guess all the prompts I’ve drawn have been interesting (at least to me), so… Well.

Anyway. Short entry tonight. Headache.

This Week’s Recommendation:

I can’t believe I haven’t recommended any books by my friend Jamie Thornton!

Jamie writes post-acpocalyptic zombie tales as well as great fantasy. This novel, Rock Heaven, is the first in her Doormaker series, and really packs a wallop. I highly recommend everything Jamie has written.

That’s All!

As always, be safe, be kind, have fun! Up and away!
