Prompt No. 31
But first, an announcement:
I sold a story! It won’t appear until next year, so details are not quite yet forthcoming, but I’m mighty chuffed!
Last Week’s Story:
I finished “Restoring the Tower” this afternoon, quite a bit earlier than I had expected! It’s historical, set in Trim, County Meath, Ireland in 1922, just after the Irish War for Independence, has no speculative elements save for a dream that involves a vision of the Holy Mother, and nothing even close to a happy ending. Now, I have no idea what Ireland was like a century ago, so I based my story on my memories of Ireland and a few Wikipedia entries. I don’t know if I will ever do anything with this story. It needs work, but it’s mainstream/historical, and none of the short fiction markets I haunt on the Submissions Grinder have anything even resembling that genre. So I guess I’ll see what happens.
It was definitely a challenge to write, but I’m fairly pleased with the results.
This Week’s Prompt:
I rolled a 1 on the my D8, which means I drew from the main deck; and I rolled a 2 on my D6 which refers to Romance. AGAIN! The very bane of my recent writerly existence. So here’s the prompt I pulled out from the Main Deck of the Story Engine:

A fiery politician wants to find love in a construction site, but it will cost them their soul.
Again, I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with this, especially since I believe, in my heart of hearts, that very few politicians, especially the fiery ones, have anything resembling a soul.
This is a mainstream romance, not a horror or fantasy themed one, though I may introduce a speculative element just because of the soul aspect.
The Week’s Recommendation:
…is the cozy mystery called Death Walks a Dog by my close personal friend Tess Baytree. I may have recommended this one before, but there’s a whole series of these novels out now, and they’re all worth a read! Check ’em out!
This feels like a shorter post than usual That’s okay.
Stay kind. Stay safe. Have fun. Stay punk.
