Five Question Meme – Answers for Outlaw
Rules of the Meme:
1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, or your favorite kind of sandwich, maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your blog or LiveJournal with the answers to the questions.
Optional:
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.
My answers to the questions I received from Outlaw beneath the fold.
1) Why turkey and swiss when there are so many other great sandwich options out there?
I find, generally, that as the complexity of a sandwich increases, my taste for it and my interest in it decreases. That’s not to say I haven’t tried and enjoyed the wide variety of sandwiches out there; I have, and will do so again. I just find that turkey and swiss is just sort of comfort food for me.
2) Is your ultimate goal to be a successful short story author, or do you have other media in mind (novels, plays, screenplays, etc.)?
I love writing short stories, but I’d love to branch out. I’m working on a novel now, of course, and hope to be a successful novelist as well. I haven’t considered writing plays or screenplays, but I’ve been pondering scripts for graphic novels for some time now.
3) What profession do you wish your child (when you have one) would pursue?
Since Jennifer and I won’t be having children, I’ll answer this question about my godson and my goddaughter. The answer’s pretty simple: I really don’t care what they choose to do, so long as it’s something that they love. I admit that I am hopeful that my goddaughter will take on a profession that’s traditionally male dominated, like medicine or computer science, but if being a homemaker is what she wants to do, it’s not my place to discourage her.
4) If your (hypothetical) child chose to be a writer, what advice would you give him/her?
Don’t be afraid to write from the heart; in fact, that’s the only place that good stories come from. Also, get a day job to pay the bills, and learn to love coffee.
5) If California west of the San Andreas fell into the ocean while you were on vacation, where would you choose to live?
That’s easy. I’d love to live in Galway, in Ireland. Or perhaps Ennis. Assuming I could find a job that would pay for the higher cost of living, of course.
